Do You LOVE Your Job?

I cannot tell you how many people I meet everyday that tell me how much they hate their jobs. Yes, I said hate. It's a pretty strong word. But its a word that I hear often.  One time I sat at the side of a bar waiting for a friend to get off work. I heard every single person in this place complain about how they disliked the company they worked for and how they hated their managers. But seriously life is too short to stay in a job that you dislike so much. I've always felt that it's important to find a passion.

I was introduced to Scentsy by a friend who had adopted one of our rescue boxers. She originally signed on to be a Scentsy Consultant because she fell in love with the great products. I thought that it would be an ideal way to earn some extra cash for our rescue. The first three months were amazing. We made some really good money for the rescue and with my earnings I was able to help some dogs that needed medical assistance.

Like most people, both Matt and I want a healthy “work life balance”. We want to be able to spend more time with each other and with our family, instead of working long and intense work hours, travelling for work and being away from home most times. I’m sure our story is no different than yours. We were both busy professionals struggling in an expensive city (Canada's most expensive city to be exact) to get ahead - trying to balance the demands of work, family, and our relationship. Feeling too often unfulfilled and conflicted with the demands of jobs that were more necessities than passions, I wondered if this was all life was? I wondered whether it could get better and how? Knowing that having to work more to increase the material standard of our life would come at a cost – less time with our family, and less time doing the things that bring us happiness. It was a depressing struggle that left us with wanting more.

About 4 months after I signed up for Scentsy, our lives changed. Matt’s client sold their company to a firm overseas and Matt lost his contract. Although it was devastating, and shocking, we took it as a sign to turn things around and to make a huge impact in our lives. We quickly realized that we already had this amazing business, set in place for us. And it was apparent that with Scentsy there is so much opportunity. Scentsy became a second income in a time of need for our family and our Scentsy team became a huge support group for us.

For me, the greatest thing about being a Scentsy Family Consultant is not the extra income, the free trips, the rewards or the incentives; but truly the greatest thing is the people that I have met along my Scentsy journey. From my customers to my Scentsy Family I am blessed to have this great group of people in my life. Some of my customers actually joined my Scentsy Family which made it even better as they have been sharing in the journey with us! I’ve been able to help many people achieve success and meet their goals, while meeting my own goals. It’s been a very rewarding experience for me.  I have a very proud feeling come over me when I watch the girls in my downline receive awards and recognition for their accomplishments.

I’ve never thought myself to be a “salesperson” and to be honest the whole selling in home parties scared the crap out of me. But since I’ve fallen in love with Scentsy I’ve had nothing but fun! I love doing home parties and I have enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people.  I love having my own company! I love working hard for myself and enjoy the fruits of my labor. Selling Scentsy has definitely been rewarding in so many ways that I could not have even imagined. It has filled a gap in my life that was apparently missing. I love my job and wish that I could share it with everyone I meet. I am more fulfilled and happier than I’ve ever been. I want to scream at the top of my lungs to everyone about my discovery!

Scentsy Family Reunion 2013 - Indianapolis

I am back from yet another Scentsy convention. Or as we at Scentsy like to call it "Scentsy Family Reunion". To some of you that title might sound kinda odd. How can a company as large as Scentsy be called a family? Truly to experience this you would know its not odd at all.

My husband Matt came with me this year. And he loved every minute of it. He understood why we refer to it as "Scentsy Family". We truly are so close to our team mates and every person feels a very special connection and bond to one another. Scentsy Spirit is what we call "Generosity" and "Authenticity". Scentsy Spirit is to give more than you take. And the spirit was very much alive.

We get to spend time with our Scentsy team and the team spirit is in such abundance.  We cheer each other on for our successes and support each other in our failures.   There is no better feeling than to watch the two girls that I sponsored walk across the stage, being recognized for their huge achievements in getting their Scentsational Start Level 3. I am so proud of them!

To kick it off we did Scentsy first 5K race.  It was Matt's very first race and  he did awesome!  His time was 27 mins and 30 seconds.  I was so proud to hear this!!!   You see it was a huge achievement for Matt.  He only started running a few months ago and this being his first race was huge!  Matt has lost over 40 pounds since he started to run.

I think that Matt has the race bug and will be participating in many more races.

Me on the other hand appreciated the 5K as a walk in the White River State Park with my Scentsy sister.  It was a great chance for us to catch up with each other and take time out to get to know each other better.  Throughout the year we talk via facebook or email but have only ever had chance to see each other at convention.

Scentsy doesn't do anything in a small way.  This year there was over 8500 consultants.  First stop "Heidi's Birthday Bash".  Heidi is Scentsy's President and married to CEO Orville Thompson.  It was nothing like having a birthday bash at Lucas Oil Stadium and seeing everyone there ready to celebrate.  We got to celebrate with singer Kelly Clarkson.  Let me tell you, if you weren't a fan of her before you definitely are now.  This lady is funny, spunky and so talented.  I never considered myself a fan or even thought hat I would know any of her songs.  But yep, I was singing along to most of the songs.  Kinda funny for a Crue fan I suppose!!

Ok so you know we have a ton of fun at Reunion.  But what is it REALLY about?  I can tell you that it is truly a life changing experience.  These are not my words, but they are the words of many consultants that I spoke to.  It is inspirational listening to the many stories of others, hearing about their struggles through life and how Scentsy made a difference.  A HUGE DIFFERENCE.  I know that personally for me it has made a huge impact.  Not only do I have many new friends that I have met from Scentsy (I call them my Scentsy brothers and sisters) but Reunion has also brought me and my husband closer together.  We bonded so much more (didn't think that was possible) this past week, and I can honestly say that I feel so much closer to him.  He shares the same passion as I do about the Scentsy Family.  We both came away from Reunion feeling inspired and motivated and feeling good about ourselves.  We both have made a pact to work on our Scentsy business and to help as many people along the way that we can.

Sure you say, inspiring and motivated and life changing.  Sounds too cliche to be true.  It really isn't.  Its quite simple actually.  If you doubt what I say, I encourage you to join us next year and experience Scentsy Reunion for yourself.

We listened to amazing speakers like Mary Christensen, Brene Brown and Daniel Pink.  Each of them giving me a different "AH-HA" moment and each with a wealth of knowledge.

Scentsy has always asked consultants to tell them what their "WHY" is.  That is a pretty broad question.  What is your "WHY" that you have a Scentsy business?  I never knew the answer to that.  Well sure, my answer was pretty broad, as the question is pretty general.  My "Why" is so that I don't have to work in a job that I don't like.  That I can work with people that I love and respect.  That I don't have to work with bullies and that I feel like a part of a team. And that I'm included.  That I have my own business and am able to work when I want and be able to spend more time with my family.

This year they asked us what our "Yay" and "Double Yay" would be.  My yay is that Matt came and experienced his first Reunion with me and LOVED it.  My double yay will be when we both walk across that stage next year as Directors.

Next year is Scentsy's 10 Year Anniversary.  Our reunion will be in St. Louis.  I invite you to join us for a life changing event.  They promise it to be the biggest ever.  It's definitely the longest.  It will be a full 6 days of fun, inspiration and motivation.  Plus I hear a rumor that there will be a baseball game in there too!!! :)

Thank you to my Scentsy Family.  We miss you all already!!  I cannot wait to see you next year.  Truly an amazing group of people.  And why not? Scentsy is really a wonderful company!
